ABDUL HANNAN CHOWDHURY, Ph.D.

Vice-Chancellor of North South University (NSU) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grameen Bank

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury is a distinguished academic leader and public intellectual, currently serving as Vice-Chancellor of North South University (NSU) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grameen Bank, a Nobel Peace Prize-winning institution. With over 35 years of experience in higher education, research, and institutional governance across Bangladesh, Canada, the United States, and China, he is widely recognized for his leadership in academic governance, internationalization, and quality assurance.

He previously served as Vice-Chancellor of Primeasia University and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, and held multiple senior leadership roles at NSU, including Dean of the School of Business and Economics, Director of the BBA Program, and Executive Director of External Relations. An internationally engaged academic, he has participated in more than 80 conferences across 45+ countries, represented Bangladesh's higher education sector at over 100 universities in 30+ countries, and held faculty appointments at institutions in Canada, the United States, and China.

Professor Chowdhury holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and an MS in Operations Research from Northeastern University, USA, along with degrees in Statistics from Jahangirnagar University. He is also internationally recognized for his significant involvement in advancing Social Business globally, working closely with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and contributing to global summits, academic dialogues, and institution-building initiatives in socially responsible and inclusive development.
